During
the morning of 16 September 2007, there is a Hong Kong city tour which will go
the business district and Avenue of the Star. After the city tour, we availed
the Shenzhen China day tour. After our Hong Kong city tour she accompanied us
to the border going to Shenzhen.
Tip 1 – Avail the
Shenzhen tour since we only pay 10 Hong Kong Dollars each for a day tour, lunch
and dinner. Also, bring your passport.
After the
immigration check, we saw our tour guide from Shenzhen. She perform name roll
call and attached stickers to our shirt as identification of the group tour.
The tour composed of 8 Filipinos. Our tour guide is in her teens, maybe 17 or
18, she can speak English well. I told her that “you speak the language well”.
She replied that “she wants to become an Olympic volunteer for the 2008 Beijing
Olympics and by being a tour guide for English participants I can improve my
English communication.” To start the tour, she travelled us around the city and
takes us to Window of the World.
Tip 2 – You must not miss when in Shenzhen. Window
of the World is a theme park located in the western part of the city. The 354
feet tall Eiffel Tower dominates the skyline.
After window of
the world, next is the window to our stomach. We were accompanied for our late
lunch to a restaurant which is not that busy but we were in a function room
with Chinese smorgasbord of duck, vegetables, beef, shrimps, fish and desert of
watermelon. The lunch is included in the 10 Hong Kong Dollars. But what I’ve
noticed are the waiters who are in their teens and I asked our tour guide if
they are working there, she said it’s part of their OJT – on the job training.
After the late lunch, she escorted us to the
Dongmen market area. They say, this area has been for over 300 years and has
been one of Shenzhen’s most popular places for shopping. It spans several
blocks including countless brand name shops, several multi-level malls and food
streets.
Tip 3 -Buying at
Dongmen is cheap you can haggle and find something you like in very good deals.
But beware of the pickpockets since our tour guide warns us to take care of our
belongings and also, to take off the tourist sticker that the she attached on
our shirt as identification of being part of the tour.
After the
shopping at Dongmen, we ate our dinner in a restaurant which is the same lunch
we have with Chinese smorgasbord of duck, vegetables, beef, shrimps and fish. I
preferred the taste of the dinner as compared to the lunch earlier which is
again gratis or free. Next to dinner, she accompanied us to the border going
back to Hong Kong and I told her “good luck and hopefully you will be chosen as
one of the 2008 Beijing Olympic volunteers”.
