It was 15 September 2007, the 2nd
destination is Macau. It is one of the two special administrative regions of
the People’s Republic of China, the other is Hong Kong. Macau is a Portuguese
colony and has become known worldwide as the "Monte Carlo of the
Orient" since gambling here was legalized by the Portuguese government in
1850. From Hong Kong, we decided to travel by ferry going to Macau.
Tip
1: There is a ferry that travels to/from Hong Kong to Macau. It’s more than an
hour ride but it is worth visiting. You can use the GOOGLE to look for the
travel time.
We
have a limited time in Macau, when we arrived at the Macau immigration
approximately 11AM, it was very busy but we move out from the immigration for
at least 30 minutes. When we were outside we decided to hire a transportation
van that will take us around Macau. We saw a bald man who has can speak English
well waiting outside the port. He told us that if we pay 70-80 Hong Kong
Dollars each for a group of 5 people he will tour us around Macau and will
return to the same port for our 4PM return journey to Hong Kong. We agreed to
him and we visited the following places:
Tip
2: You can haggle for the price with the drivers to see places in Macau. Also,
you can use GOOGLE to look for other places to visit.
-The Lotus Flower in full bloom
symbolises Macau’s everlasting prosperity
- The central business district of Macau
- A-Ma Temple, a temple dedicated to the goddess Matsu
built in 1448.
- We
went insideMacau Tower, a communication tower
- - Runis of St. Paul's Cathedral - the cathedral was built
in 1602 and destroyed by fire in 1835. Only the southern stone façade remains
today.
Time runs fast and we didn’t notice that
4PM is fast approaching. The driver accompanied us to the port and we were able
to make it to our ferry going back to Hong Kong.
Tip 3: Check the weather in advance it’s
cloudy and raining during that time which could be better if sunny. When we
left Hong Kong during the morning, it was sunny. You can use GOOGLE to check
the weather.
